FEMA no longer failing
The Senate has figured out how to correct the failed FEMA agency. Take the 'F' out of its name.
They passed an amendment Tuesday night to abolish FEMA and create a brand new agency called the Emergency Management Authority, or EMA. It's brilliant!
Instead of restoring competent people to the agency, they want to go another round of musical chairs. The Senate has surpassed itself in proving that it’s insane, by doing the same thing and expecting different results.
The eleven senators with the good sense to vote against the amendment are:
Akaka (D-HI), Boxer (D-CA), Bunning (R-KY), Clinton (D-NY), Inhofe (R-OK), Jeffords (I-VT), Kerry (D-MA), Lautenberg (D-NJ), Leahy (D-VT), Pryor (D-AR), Schumer (D-NY)
Not a single one from a Hurricane prone state.

The Senate clearly did not go far enough. Had they removed the FE from FEMA the new agency MA could have been charged with comforting every future disaster victum with hugs and chicken soup.
I know I sound flippant about a serious matter, but the Repugs have proven so often that they're not fit to govern or legislate that with every new bit of evidence I either have to laugh or cry. I can assure you, it's a laugh born out of sarcasm.
Dan,
You're doing all the work for them. Now they don't need to figure out what to do next year after whatever debacle we have this year.
This vote also showed which Democrats might be worthwhile, and which are just part of the Beltway crowd. The majority of Democrats voted for the musical chairs. It's especially troubling that none of the Gulf State Senators voted no. We're still recovering from Katrita and Ivan.
It is nice to see one of my senators vote with common sense. I wonder though if it is because he thinks he is going to lose the election to our upstart representative from my distict who isn't waiting for him to retire.
Cheryl/Christopher, I admire political courage and I've noted who has demonstated it. That being said, I also note which party tends to introduce this kind of worthless legislation.
I posted this on the other blog...but it fits here perfectly:
FEMA a Disaster for Freedom of the Press
Katrina victims “not allowed” to talk to media, reporter told
It's ironic that FEMA, an agency that only 6 yrs ago was adept at dealing with natural disasters, has itself become a disaster.
What's the point in having an agency for helping in disasters when all they're doing is making another disaster to clean up? Who's going to clean up this one? FEMA2? That's a horror movie I don't want to see.
